An "avatar" is a small picture that shows up with your name beside everything you post, as well as on your profile page. The forum is set so members can upload a small photo to their profile, and it makes the forum more personal and fun. If you'd like your own avatar, here's how to get it:
1. Click on "User Control Panel" in the upper right hand corner of the page.
2. Click on "Profile" in the left side blue menu of your User Control Panel page.
3. Click on "Edit Avatar" in the left side blue menu of your Profile page.
4. There are three choices for loading a photo.
a. See the blank that says "Upload from your machine". This is what you would use
if your photo is stored on your own computer. Click the "Browse" button and a window
will appear showing the files of your computer. Navigate through the files to find the
photo you want to use as an avatar. It must be larger than 20 x 20 pixels and smaller
than 100 x 100 pixels, so you may need to change the size of your photo before you
try to upload it (most digital cameras take huge photos, around 1200 pixels). Click
on the photo you want to use and then hit the "Submit" button.
b. The blank that says "Upload from a URL" is what you would use if you store your
photos on another website such as flickr.com or photobucket.com. To use this
option, login to your photobucket account and find the photo you want. Resize it
to 100 x 100 pixels or smaller, and then copy the URL for that photo. Paste it into
the "Upload from a URL" blank and hit the "Submit" button.
c. The blank that says "Link off-site" could be used if you found a photo on the internet
that you would like to use that has its own page. For instance, if you search for
a horse image using Google, and then click on the "view larger image" button, it will
show you a white page with a url link at the top with just the photo on that page,
nothing else. Copy the url at the top of the page, and paste it inot the "Link off-site
blank, and hit the "Submit" button.
If you encounter any problems, you will get an error message in red, stating that your photo is too large, etc. Simply edit it and resize it and try again, or find a smaller photo. Avatars can be changed as many times as you like. Have fun using this feature of Liverystable.net!
