I live in Canada, and the winters here get really cold. In the winter there is almost no way to give a muddy horse a bath. So, I do about half an hour of touching up every time I go to the barn on the horse I part board. What are your favourite grooming supplies? I am a fan of:

Cowboy Magic - www.cowboymagic.com
(Detangler & Shine)
This stuff is absolutely GREAT. It detangles really well and produces awesome shine. I like to put a bit of it in my horse's mane and tail every time I see him. It is super expensive though - I paid $40 for about 475 mL! You really don't need a lot of it though to make a difference. I seriously recommend it! I bought the bottle in August 2009 and I still have about 2/3 left.

Vetrolin - http://www.farnamhorse.com/aqha/vetrolin_email.htm

I also really love Vetrolin products. The Shine is really good - after you bathe just spray on and your horse will stay shiny even if he rolls! I remember one day in particular where I bathed my gelding and put him outside just for him to go and roll. I brought him back inside and the dirt literally slipped right off! You do have to make sure you don't spray in the saddle area though since it can make saddle pads slip around. It's pretty cheap too - About $15 for a big spray bottle of it.

Miracle Groom - http://www.americanlivestock.com/p-844- ... groom.aspx

This is a fairly new product that I bought but it is a supposed "bath in a bottle" and will allow you to get rid of stains without having to actually having to give your horse a bath which really comes in handy during winter here! So far I haven't had any problems with it - I decided to try it since it was so cheap... it was like $16.25 for the spray bottle. If it ends up not working, worst case scenario is that I lose 20 bucks.

So those are some of my favourite grooming supplies... what are some of yours?

Oh, goodness...about all I buy in bottle form is fly spray!

Ha ha, my horses would think they'd gone to heaven if I shined them up. All I use for grooming is a curry comb to get the mud off, a brush to smooth them out, and an old plastic bristled hairbrush for their mane and tail.

Sorry, I am so old fashioned I should not even comment on this thread. But thanks, Lauren, because if I ever do decide to doll up a horse, I'll know the best stuff to use.
:D

I wish grooming was that simple! My gelding (I just call him mine because I'm hoping to fully own him soon) and I compete in shows so it's nice to have him always looking fab. And he's such a sucky baby that he enjoys the attention. If you ever do decide to give your horses baths, I would really recommend spraying some of the Vetrolin on them - it keeps them looking like they were just bathed for days! Definitely check this stuff out if you ever want your horse to look super clean!

Do post photos, Lauren. I'd love to see your gelding, especially if he's in show clothes. It has been so muddy and cold here for the past 4 months--I can't wait to see my horses slicked off and clean again! Summer's the best time of year. I don't even take photos in the winter time because mine are so hairy and dirty and scruffy looking.
