Hi! This is Daisy, and I live in rural Iowa with my husband and one year old daughter. We have three horses (which I will describe in the horse section), a black lab, and several barn cats. We don't show or compete with our horses, we just like to ride for fun. I grew up on a cattle ranch in Nebraska, and my dad raised Quarter Horses to use on the ranch. He didn't like using a horse who didn't know how to work cattle and get the job done, so he left the colt training to us kids. We rode about every day to drive or sort cattle, there was always a job to do with the horses. As a result, the horses were easy to ride, good at working a cow, and very gentle to be around. I learned a lot about training colts from my oldest sister, who was a student of Ray Hunt. Most of my horse knowledge just comes from growing up around them, learning from my dad and sister's examples, and lessons learned the hard way--I've fallen off a lot. Now that I'm a mom, I don't have as much time to spend with horses, but I look forward to when our daughter is old enough to take riding, and my goal right now is to get our horses trained enough for her to ride. She is well on her way to being a horse crazy girl just like I was.

Hi Lisa,
Glad to have a new friend on Livery. It's nice to hear that you are so versatile with Jack...western and huntseat...way to go.

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to the forum, we're glad to see you here. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of opinions about, or love for horses, but everyone loves seeing new users and posts. So don't be shy, just jump right in!

I am a rookie when it comes to horses, when I got married, my wife and the horses were a package deal! But she's been very patient with me and I'm finally starting to get the hang of it after 3 years. This summer I even started my first colt and he's coming along GREAT - I think it's more due to his laid-back nature than my training techniques! :)

Looking forward to hearing from you often
